Made by Digital - an NMIS online event series

The future of Manufacturing is undoubtedly digital, but what does that mean and how can you be part of it?

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is at the forefront of digitally-enabled manufacturing. AM covers such a wide range of technologies and associated themes/topics – it can be difficult to know where to start, and how to assess the suitability of emerging technologies for your business.

To ensure Scotland’s manufacturing sector is at the forefront of digitally-enabled manufacturing, our teams from the NMIS Digital Factory and the Manufacturing Skills Academy have designed a two-part series of Rapid Knowledge Transfer Seminars (RKTS) aimed at developing your knowledge and understanding of the latest innovations in digital manufacturing technologies and software.

This event series will run from Tuesday 9 November 2021 – Tuesday 10 May 2022.

Date - Tuesday 9 November 2021

Time - 11.00 - 12.00 (GMT)

Making use of additive manufacturing techniques can offer new design freedoms, but how can you use them to your advantage? With so many terms used to describe the different techniques available such as 'generative design', topology optimisation', and 'latticing', it can be difficult to know where to start and which techniques could be right for you.

In this online event, our Research and Development Engineers will explain the different design methodologies and optimisation techniques. We will also be joined by Anthony O'Riordan, Managing Directory of Kaizen PLM, an accredited additive manufacturing expert partner for Siemens Digital Industries Software in the UK&I.

Have you heard about additive manufacturing and have been wondering how you can use the technology to transform your business?

In this online event, we will provide an insight into the additive manufacturing (AM) process, showing the different stages to producing a final part, and how these vary with different types of AM equipment. We will then look at how this might fit in a business, and how to obtain either AM parts or AM process equipment.

Can't make this date? Don't worry. We will be repeating the event in the coming months. Check back for further updates.

What is MELD® metal AM technology? We get asked this question a lot, so we have produced an online event to tell you everything you need to know about this innovative technology.

In this session, we will discuss the research that the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland has done with the technology and how you might use it in your business. We will be joined by our guest presenter, Chase Cox, Director of Technology at MELD Manufacturing, the company that developed and pioneered the technology.

Wondering what additive manufacturing is and how it could help transform your business or manufacturing processes?

This month, our online event will provide an introduction to additive manufacturing, providing a helpful overview of what it is, along with examples of how and why to use it while debunking some of the common myths around the process.

This event will be repeated to make sure you and your business have the opportunity to consolidate your new knowledge developed in AM in case this date does not suit your diary. This event was previously held on 21/10/21.
