The Lightweight Manufacturing Centre (LMC) is a specialist technology centre within NMIS.

Working with novel lightweight solutions to help businesses overcome and face manufacturing challenges, this webinar provides an introduction to key members of the team including LMC Director, Iain Bomphray, who boasts significant lightweighting and composites experience having worked in senior engineering roles at Red Bull Racing and Williams Advanced Engineering.  

Outlining the help that the LMC can offer, whatever your business size or industry, you will come away from the webinar inspired to tap into the vast expertise and technical capabilities at the Renfrew based facility, also learning about a real life LMC composites recycling project and its plans for the future.  

Iain boasts over 20 years' experience in Formula One in design, engineering, manufacture and testing, including directing research and development and developing intellectual property.

Specialising in composite materials and structures across the automotive and motorsport sectors Iain also has great experience in aerospace, defence, marine, renewables, the built environment, oil and gas and rail. 

Iain is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. 

Research and Development Engineer Alex enjoys a diverse role at the LMC, with activities including technical trials and engaging in business development and project management. Spanning a range of sectors, his research projects cut across composites recycling and the circular economy and novel wind-turbine blade manufacture.  

Dr Zhe Liu has completed a PhD on discontinuous recycled fibre alignment technology at the University of Nottingham, continuing to working on composites recycling and reuse as a post-doc research fellow.   Zhe recently joined the Lightweight Manufacturing Centre as a composites engineer with expertise in manufacturing high performance recycled fibre composites
