Renewable supply chain fit for 2050

2020 | Product development & innovation support

Student: Feline Fehring

Project aim

To develop a framework for sustainable supply chains that is tangible and applicable for industry in order to help firms to improve the sustainability of their supply chains.

Project background

The global economy relies on supply chains for trading between different economies across the world. This has been encouraged through globalisation, increasing the negative impacts on the environment. With the increasing interest in sustainability and the introduction of the net-zero goal for 2050, supply chains also need to be increasingly sustainable.

The project seeks to identify the sustainable supply chain practices in place and the changes to be made to improve sustainability and reduce GHG emissions across the supply chain, focusing on decarbonising freight forwarding and the role of logistics service providers.

There are different factors affecting the implementation of such practices. For example, collaboration across a supply chain plays a key role in transforming supply chains into more sustainable ones. Therefore, the role of collaboration in sustainable supply chains will be investigated through case studies, which enable the comparison between a global supply chain and a more local one.
