Course Summary

As the manufacturing industry evolves, a deep understanding of machining fundamentals is not just a valuable skill; it's the key to innovation and success.

Machining is the process of transforming raw metal materials into precise components, from intricate aerospace parts to everyday house hold items. It's a fundamental skill that underpins the entire manufacturing industry, and its importance cannot be overstated.

This one-day, in-person training course will introduce delegates to the fundamentals of metal cutting and machining. On completion, delegates will gain the necessary knowledge to:

  • Select the right tools for their cutting task
  • Apply machining strategy
  • Follow standard maintenance routines

The course is taught by recognised machining experts using theory and real life examples to help demonstrate core machining concepts.

Although previous machining experience is not a prerequisite, having some practical experience of machining is recommended.

The following topics will be covered in this course:

  1. Cutting process fundamentals
  2. Workpiece materials and their machinability
  3. Tool wear identification and troubleshooting
  4. Tool features
  5. Cutting geometries
  6. Cutting materials
  7. Tool maintenance
  8. ISO designation system
  9. Introduction to a machining production economy

During this course, you will learn about:

  • Cutting process fundamentals
  • Workpiece materials and their machinability
  • Tool wear identification and troubleshooting
  • Workpiece materials

The course is ideally suited to machinists, apprentices, and technical college and university students.
