Tooling specialist chisels out agreement for another three years

Gloucestershire-based cutting tool manufacturer Quickgrind has reaffirmed its commitment to the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC), part of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) Group, by renewing its Tier Two Membership deal.

Quickgrind has an international reputation for designing, developing, and manufacturing solid carbide and high-speed steel cutting tools for use in die and mould, aerospace, automotive, F1 motor racing, and general engineering.

The new agreement, which will run for a further three years until 2024, will take Quickgrind’s total tenure as an AFRC Member to six years. Throughout Quickgrind’s previous agreement, the company had opportunities to demonstrate its tooling and vending solutions to new clients, collaborate with experts in various fields, including composites and carbon fibre-reinforced polymers, and educate the next generation on all things tooling.

The AFRC and its network of Members and Partners have also benefitted from the membership - and not only through tapping into Quickgrind’s 50 years of experience in the tooling sector. The company is also the sole vending solutions partner of the AFRC and has installed a full suite of vending machines which hold and dispense tools within the AFRC; and is developing and deploying a new industrial calibrated locker-based system for use in the future.

Mark Aspinall, Technical Support Manager at Quickgrind, commented:

Working with an established University and High Value Manufacturing Catapult centre has provided us with the opportunity to develop, not only ourselves and our business, but also the wider community and customer base.

Collaboratively working with the AFRC has expedited our knowledge, and it’s a truly mutually beneficial partnership. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and strength over the next three years.

Crawford Cullen, Senior Manufacturing Engineer at NMIS, said:

We're delighted Quickgrind has renewed its Membership and are looking forward to collaborating on new projects in the future.

As we continue to promote our machining capabilities to a wider market throughout Scotland and beyond, Quickgrind will play an essential role in helping us reach and engage with new markets, whilst also providing us with invaluable tooling expertise and support.
